A coastal jewel of Balochistan — historic, strategically vital, and brimming with economic potential.
Lasbela (لسبیلہ) is a coastal district of Kalat Division, Balochistan, approximately 100 km northwest of Karachi. The name derives from Las (plain) and Bela (jungle). Once a princely state under the Jam of Lasbela (Jamote tribe), it acceded to Pakistan in 1947. Hub District was carved out of Lasbela in 2022.
The district's economy is anchored by fishing, agriculture, livestock, and heavy industry. The Lasbela Industrial Estate (LIEDA) hosts Pakistan's largest oil refinery — Cnergyico (120,000 barrels/day) — and a 1,350 MW power station. Minerals including limestone and gypsum are extracted from the Kirthar Range.
The 2023 Census recorded a population of 680,977. Balochi (75.32%) is the dominant language, followed by Sindhi (9.96%), Brahui (8.09%), and Pashto (2.56%). The district literacy rate is 32.47% — 45.86% male, 26.48% female.
